This is a guest post from fellow professional copywriter, blogger and social media manager CJCopy.
Congratulations! You’ve got your website all set up, you’ve either bought it, used a template or had your own little wrestle with WordPress.
Well, it’s not going to do much good sitting there blank is it? You have two options, either have a crack at filling in the content yourself, or hire a professional copywriter to do it for you.
If you’re wondering “why hire a professional copywriter?” – keep on reading!
“But hiring a professional copywriter costs money” you say?
Trust me, the money you spend on a decent copywriter will be some of the best you ever spend.
Well-written copy can do a number of great things. It can:
- Make your product sound amazing
- Make your product sell amazingly
- Increase your profit to… amazing levels!
Overuse of the word ‘amazing’ aside, you get the idea. Carefully crafted copy will do wonders for your product/service in the long run and recoup any costs spent on writing it tenfold.
“That sounds good but… how hard can writing your own copy be?”
Believe it or not, writing convincing copy can be a very tricky thing to do. There is a reason millions of people make millions selling it. They know what they do, and they do it well.
It’s not just your standard highschool essay you’re putting on your website, every word, sentence and paragraph must fit perfectly and all of it must serve a specific purpose ‐ selling your product.
It’s important to remember, having no content is the same as having bad copy – by outsourcing this you have less to worry about as it’s in safe hands.
What lies beneath the surface of quality website copy?
It goes without saying, the benefit to having your company show up on the first page of Google is paramount. However, not many people realise how copy plays a major role in this.
Careful keyword analysis is what makes the copy world spin. The more relevant high-value keywords or phrases that appear on your website, the better it will rank in the search engine results.
While keywords are important, it’s not as simple as stuffing them in everywhere. Anyone can do that. They have to be relevant and read well – remember, your content isn’t just for search engines. Real people have to read that too however, too many of these is detrimental. It’s a fine balance.
Effective copy will propel your site upwards ‐ however, there’s much more to good content than just keywords. Methods ranging from the word count, content layout and even how regularly you post can also have a great impact.
“Ok, so what do I do?”
Shopping around for copywriters is always a good idea. There are thousands of people just waiting to write copy for you…
However, it’s also important to remember that the cheapest copy may not be the best copy. They could just be someone looking to pay for their next pizza rather than a professional copywriter looking to genuinely help your business!
